PI tone

Post by andrew »

I built a Marshall 2204 JCM 800 preamp(sounds good) but would adding a PI section and using only one output enhance the tone? Thank you!

The PI adds a lot to the tone, but the setup varies with the output tubes you plan to use. As well, the PI is where the NFB is normally applied and this makes a big difference in tone. I take it that you have no presence pot since there is no power amp.

Tells us more about your build plan and we can help you better. :D

Thank you for the reply! This is a stand alone 2204 preamp that I run into a 20W PP cathode biased power amp with two EL-34s. There is a cut control on the PI section. Also would it benefit to put a master volume after the "PI" on the 2204 preamp?I hope this is enough information. Thanks!

Do you have a schematic of your preamp and power amp? This would help greatly in figuring out your situation. I know what a real 2204 looks like, I just want to see what you got.

Hello, Can I send the schematics to your email? I don't know how to get them up on ampgarage? Or if you'd rather I can point you to the websites. Thanks for your time and help!
