I have a Hammond E-100 amp, which contains the main power amp and the reverb power amp all in one chassis. There are ton of resistors and caps in there, and I am wondering how much of it can reasonably be expected to be reusable. Current plan is to build a jazz amp (Gibson GA-50T or Ampeg G12) with the big OT and the 7591's, and a brown tolex Deluxe with the small OT (not a Carmen Ghia guy). I'm not very experienced, and have no technical background, but have built a Weber Plexi head, done some mods and parts replacement (plate resistors, coupling/signal caps) on my SF BMR, and a few other related things. About to start disassembling this Hammond, and would appreciate experienced DIY guys' thoughts here.
And if anyone wants that beast of a power transformer (which ran BOTH power amps), no reasonable offer will be refused!
Which small components to reuse? Hammond E-100

Re: Which small components to reuse? Hammond E-100
I'm working on an amp using parts from a Baldwin tube organ right now. I love getting my hands on these, there are usually many good parts inside and sometimes old, very good tubes.
I save the transformers, some tube sockets, lug strips, and some wire but no caps or resistors. Most of them are either dried out (caps) or way out of spec (resistors). I do keep the pots just in case they're ok, switches, fuse holders, etc. so I have enough to build without buying too much.
Where are you located and what would you want for the PT? You can PM me if you want to keep it private.

The answer is that it depends on how much time you are willing to invest in harvesting used parts. Coupling caps should be tested for leakage. I usually harvest anything that looks promising and has reasonable long leads.

Yeah, phil_s, I suppose that about sums it up! Doesn't matter what's typically still good, you still have to check it.

Leakage test is fairly simple. Put the cap in a test circuit. Anyone can whip up a simple test circuit. See if it is passing DC with your DMM. There should be no DC. A few mV is fine. Search TAG. This has been discussed.
