EVM 12 alternatives
Anyone had any experience with some lighter alternatives, my knees are totally screwed so I need to find a lighter alternative that gets me in the ball park

This is what I use for my bass rig because my knees and back won't take carrying the weight anymore.

Lol, I have been using a dolly but I need to get my kit upstairs into my studio, the wife is getting pissed with being used as a unpaid roadie

Yeah, I have an old house that has stairs going down to the garage and to the sidewalk in the front so I know what you mean. I have an Ampeg SVT 3 head and a single EV SRO speaker so they're both at my carry limit. As much as an embarrassment as it is, I have my son load and unload anything with dual 12" speakers anymore.

For guitar, Eminence Texas Heat. I call it the "poor man's EV." Rated 150W and not at all sizzly in the high frequencies, nice midrange blare.jestaudio wrote:Anyone had any experience with some lighter alternatives, my knees are totally screwed so I need to find a lighter alternative that gets me in the ball park
I'll have to have another listen one of these days to Emi's Tonker Lite. First hearing was good, but a couple years ago. A bit expensive due to lightweight neodymium magnets, but that's the tradeoff, right?
down technical blind alleys . . .

This is why I leave cabinets and amps all over town. They're like breadcrumbs, helping me find my way home. I have a 2x12 in Brooklyn, and a 4x10 combo in Milltown NJ. I just don't want to lug equipment anymore. As Danny Glover used to say in the Lethal Weapon movies, I am too old for this shit.
I love EVM12L's. And the only speaker I've used that comes close is just as heavy (the Fane Studio 12L).
But, my other go to speaker is the JBL K120. it is a bit lighter, and has a wonderful transparent tone. Not exactly like an EVM, but has the main ingredients (clean, powerful, and articulate without accentuating any freq in particular).
