I am having all kinds of snap crackle and pops out of my amp. It gets worse when I turn up the reverb. I am pretty sure the transformer is shot.
I have a champ that I rob parts off of.
I know I read somewhere that I could use a champ output transformer in its place.
Is this true?
Thanks

You didn't say what amp you own or which champ transformer you were talking about but I would make sure the reverb send and return tubes are good first.A reverb transformer can be bought new for less than $12.

I have checked the tank, cables, tubes and all the connections. The amp sat idle for along time and the way other things have been going I feel that swapping the tranny would be the next step.

Re: reverb transformer advice?
Just in case you haven't looked at it already:
Have you tried replacing the 100k plate resistors? They are often a source of noise/pops in these amps. A 1w carbon film resistor (not cabon composition) would be a good upgrade and probably cheaper than replacing tube sockes and other parts...
Also the filter caps, usually 80uf or 220uf and 20uf in the doghouse under the chassis may need replacement after 10-15 years. I would also replace the 25uf/25v caps on the board.
Good luck,
Jelle
