Westinghouse 6973
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has used a Westinghouse 6973 output tube. I need two tubes for a Supro Amp I'm building and haven't found any data on these on the web. Maybe they are rebranded RCA. They are tall with yellow writing packaged in blue Westinghouse boxes.
Thanks for any help here. I'll try to post a picture of them tomorrow. A local shop has a couple for sale so maybe I can snap a photo.

Re: Westinghouse 6973
a lot of true Westinghouse tubes have a black plate structure and sound killer, is this the color of the plates?
Even if this is not the case a NOS tube will always sound better than 90 percent of the current stuff made today, and last a ton longer!!
If you go to the tube world site you may find a good picture of that brand tube with a rating.
I have a Univox 2-12" amp with the stock Jensens that uses these tubes ( I have RCAs in it) and it is really nice sounding amp even with its meger power supply!

Here are a couple images. Some "pet" hair on tubes, no cracks... in glass.

They look like RCAs rebranded to me!

Cool. Not knowing too much about tubes, I was hoping they weren't knock offs. Thanks.

Re: Westinghouse 6973
I posted this over on my Supro 1624 from an M3 thread...
I looked at the inside of the 6973's that I bought a few weeks back and they aren't connected at pin 2 and pin 8. I read up on the 6973 and found that pin 8 should be connected. I read up on the tube data sheets and realize that the 6CZ5 is identical minus that pin 8 isn't connected. Both of the tubes don't have pin 2 connected.
My concern is that the Westinghouse 6973 isn't a real 6973, but a relabeled 6CZ5. Any ideas here or do all 6973's or the RCA's not have anything connected to pin 8 inside the tube glass?
Thanks,
Nate

Re: Westinghouse 6973
I found RCA data sheets for both 6973 and 6CZ5.
The listed characteristics at 250V Va, 250V Vg2, and -15V Vg1 are identical in Ia, Gm, Ra, and Vg1 @100uA, but Ig2 is ~30% higher in the case of the 6CZ5. They aren't identical, but the difference is insignificant for your purposes, IMO.
Pinouts are the same except 6973 has g2 connected to both pins 1 and 8, whereas 6CZ5 has g2 connected to pin 1 only. Use pin 1 for the g2 connection and you can use either type.

Re: Westinghouse 6973
There is the 10W vs 12W max plate dissipation (6CZ5 vs. 6973), but if these tubes are marked 6973, I would expect them to have the dissipation limit for the 6973 spec.
