Is there a way to gauge the power consumption of a given amp.?
Would mains voltage and fuse provide any kind of formula for a decent "ball park" number.?

you could pick up a Kill-A-Watt meter and plug your amp into that and then into the mains, it will tell you how much wattage any electronic item is consuming,

useful for all kinds of other stuff too!

If it's a class A amp then you can pretty much add up the heater power and HT power and there you have it.

But if it's a class AB amp then the quiescent power will be less than the power at full output, and by how much depends on details of the circuit. As a rough rule of thumb you might multiply the quiescent HT power by x2, then add the heater power.

2. Hey Merlin ..... Thank You. i will give that math a try, and see if it jives with the power rating on the back panel, and also one of those meters mentioned above you.
I am not looking for a precise measurement. Maybe somewhere in the realm in 10-15 percent. A number you could use as a guide is all.
