New Amp - twreck inspired
Hello all,
I just finished a wreck inspired amp and thought I'd share the schematic with all of you. The amp sounds great and is incredibly loud! I'm not a player, but my two sons are so I'm trying to have them put the amp through it's paces. I'd like to thank everyone for the wealth of information on this site. I've spent many years researching everything. I still need to build a head cabinet for the amp to finish it. I have a 2 x 12 speaker cabinet that I built with a Jensen Jet Electric Lightning and an Eminence Delta Pro. I would appreciate any speaker suggestions for this type of amp. I'm thinking I'd like to try something a little different to see how it sounds. Thanks Again to everyone for all of the great info.

Congratulations on the build.
This is a tease. We want pictures!

Thought you might be interested in seeing this schematic of an amp I built.

Re: New Amp - twreck inspired
Doesn't the diode in the grid leak path of the 3rd stage create continuous clipping of half the signal wave? All the signal flows thru it and on to ground and it won't conduct half the time. No?
If it says "Vintage" on it, -it isn't.
Re: New Amp - twreck inspired
JJman,
The diode is part of the arc protection network taken right out of Merlin's book on preamps. I'd have to re-read that section to remember the concept behind it. I'll try to get a picture when I have time.
10thTx,
Thanks for the schematic. I've seen a lot of your work on the Hoffman forum.
Anyone have any speaker recommendations?
Thanks Again,
Pierre

Re: New Amp - twreck inspired
There's an error on you schematic that you may want to correct. You have both inputs to the PI grounded.Pierre wrote:I just finished a wreck inspired amp and thought I'd share the schematic with all of you.
Re: New Amp - twreck inspired
Thanks, I'll fix that.

Updated Schematic.

Re: New Amp - twreck inspired
Now I see my mistake regarding the diode. It's DC coupled there so the current is already flowing thru the diode so it's biased on all the time.
If it says "Vintage" on it, -it isn't.
Re: New Amp - twreck inspired
Yes. Until the cathode voltage of the follower biases up positive and shuts it down. It prevents the B+ at the previous stage from overcharging the followers grid and shorting out the internal electrodes. It's DC coupled there so the current is already flowing thru the diode so it's biased on all the time.
Cheers,
Dave O.
Re: New Amp - twreck inspired
I'm thinking about adding send and return jacks between the tone stack and the PI. Is this a good idea? I thought I would experiment with that and possibly build some sort of d'lator down the road.
Thanks,
Pierre
