Tubes noisy during break in?

Post by '61fredster »

I swapped out the 6L6GC tubes in my 80's Fender 30 and pulled and cleaned the six pre-amp tube's pins. The amp once warmed up sounds better, but when I first power it on I get some random popping and static sounds. After playing for a few minutes it goes quiet. Is that normal, and will that go away or did I break something while pulling and replacing the tubes?. I have not biased the new power tubes yet either, as I don't yet own a bias probe. Thanks for reading, and have a great day!

I had this happen with a pair of '68 Mullard EL84s that I popped in an amp one time. Happened exactly as you said with some static and popping. Went away pretty quickly and never heard it again. I wouldn't worry unless it prevails.

Some preamp tubes just do that forever, and with some they stop after a while.
