Quad el84 poweramp
Does anyone have a schematic for an 4x el84 poweramp? Recently acquired a quad of 7189a's, and I'm looking to build something rather powerful.

Liverpool?
In theory, theory is the same as practice. In practice it's different.

Picking up on Phils suggestion, there is the Phat Ass 36 Watt design by Scott Rubel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvcDYBOAC2E

Re: Quad el84 poweramp
With a quad of EL84s? Try a quad of KT88s if you want power.I'm looking to build something rather powerful.
I play in a circle of musicians that are mostly in the 45-65 age bracket and we are all at the point in our musical careers and maturity level that less is more. It's all about the tone, not about how loud we can get. Those of us that play bass are at a disadvantage in that it takes more power to get through (unless you play through the PA) and our equipment, mostly the speaker cabs, are HEAVY. I also play guitar and my gear has gotten smaller over the years but I can still get stage volumes that work.
Having said that, I would personally stick with a pair of EL84s and mic it if you need more volume. A friend just picked up a 5w Marshall combo and it's got more than enough oomph to hurt your ears. I like it when he plays through his '65 Fender SR (that I had the privilege of repairing earlier this year) because of the tone.
TONE! TONE! TONE! You can always have volume but the tone is the most important piece and again, in MY opinion, a pair of '84s will give you the tone you need.
