Master Vol

Post by C Moore »

I did a search for "cross" and I got 2 results for tube cross reference.
I did a search for "cross line"...but the results were mostly for a line out.
So I tried... :)

Anyway.....I was wondering if any of you guys have much experience using a Cross Line Master Volume.?
Like in a Matchless Spitfire/Lightning.

I built what is basically an AC15...it has a cut control. A friend of mine played it for a few days...says his only complaint is that the amp is kind of "Instant On" and he was thinking a MV would be a big help. Not so much to get "power amp distortion in an apartment".....but just to ease up on the instant Loudness/Volume a wee bit.

So what do you guys think of a Cross Line MV in this application.?
Thank You

Search for "cross and line" or "crossline and volume", separating the words with " and ".

Returns are similar to this:

Maybe someone who is wise in the ways of searching could make a short tutorial. Maybe they could get a sticky made out it. Not that I would need something like that, of course...

So what exactly is a Crossline MV.?
Is it kind of like NFB...where the pot mixes the out of phase signals from the PI.?
And they tend to cancel each other...so you get some kind of attenuation.?
Thank You

He could possibly replace the volume pot with one with a slower taper. No fuss, no muss.

Or replace it with a Lar-Mar type MV... The two PI outputs aren't exactly symmetrical or equal in amplitude, so they won't exactly cancel, and some unusual distortions will be created all the way down.
