Woah! what a cool idea. Anyone know where I could order the bias pot with the locking knob?

Cool, but overkill, IMO. Search for "10-turn vernier knob" and you can find sources.

First place I'd look is Mouser, then Digi-Key. You could spend hours wandering thru their catalogs.

I like the Komet bias setup too but would go with a single turn 10K pot mounted on the back.

Only thing I'm thinking is you gotta know the plate voltage too right, so if your gonna be inside measuring why bother with all that extra wiring and hardware? Anyone....
In theory, theory is the same as practice. In practice it's different.

I'm with you but some people want to be xtra tweaky so let 'em. I got a feeling Beaze will freeze when he sees the prices of 10-turn lockable pots. And 10-turns in general.

Maybe Komet's builder found a bunch on surplus for cheep. So there's somewhere else for Beaze to search - try our friend ApexJr.

You read my mind. Lol. The extra cost isnt really worth the cool factor to me.

The only amp I've bothered to pay the high cost for the 10 turn bias pot and locking knob was for my Asteroid (K60 clone).

Allyn and I bought some Bourns 10 turn off ebay many years ago so I have maybe 3 but no more knobs and they cost a mint. :)

If this is for yourself - go ahead.

Otherwise - Use a 10 turn trimmer on a mount such that it can be screwdriver adjusted via an acess hole in the panel. Bourns (for one) do the pots and the "behind panel" mount adapters.

If there is a knob some ignorant sod is going to want to adjust it. This will be done in total ignorance, without any real clue as to what he's doing. If it has a locking device he will just think it is a sticky control and he will lean on it harder until the locking mechanism breaks.

It is never a mistake to idiot proof your designs. Sooner or later it will end up in the hands of an idiot. If there is any way for him to break it he will demonstate his sole talent in finding that way.

You really only need to get the plate voltage once (or you could just ask the builder) and despite what people say, in my experience the swing on the plate voltage that occurs while biasing is slight, and easy to factor in.

When I'm setting bias I almost always have a meter on the plate as well as one on the bias, watching them both. But then I'm a picky SOB.

Allied has some that aren't too pricy. I think its a great add on for the Express amp. Makes it easy to bias without removing the chassis.

There are other bias type pots, locking pots etc.. But the 10 turn dial pots are nice to fine tune and set the bias.
