1/8" Chassis Bent Without Brake

Post by Cantplay »

The is a little copper chassis I'm doibg for a future project.

Even annealed, this thickness is unpossible to bend accurately without expensive tooling.

I set the saw fence at 1.5" and the blade barely up. I took a pass on each side, then raised the blade. I repeted this till I had 3/32 height.

Trial bends told me that I needed a wider kerf, so I reset the fence and reped this process.

The finished bend was done by hand over table edge. I am going to fill the kerf with solderto strengthen Iit.

Wow, I'll bet that sheet of cooper wasn't cheap.

I suppose it depends on the grade of the copper alloy on how brittle it would be in a brake.

About the only problem I can see is that it will oxidize unless you coat it with something.

Keep posting your progress!

Pretty Cool! A friend of mine turned me on to this same technique.
You can even use a 3-4 1/2" grinder with a cut-off wheel to
score it IF you are steady with your hands.I am also curious
how you plan to deal with tarnishing? Nice Work!

I'm planning on doing some etching, then 10B finish (oil rubbed bronze)

This is a dark chocolaty burnt looking finish.
