Strymon Big Sky

Post by Structo »

I don't know how I missed this pedal.

Some of the coolest sounds I've heard in quite a while.

I really like the Chorale effect here:

Here some distorted Chorale:

All about it with tons of sound clips:

The bad news is it's new and will cost $479!

I have a friend that preordered it. Can't wait to check it out. I've had the Timeline since it was released. Strymon makes good stuff.

You can buy a lot for 5 bills, but not from Strymon. Just another overpriced pedal vendor. It does sound good and it appears they implemented MIDI and presets in a useful way. At least it's not the crippled MIDI and presets that TC has been using to extract money from poor suckers hoping for a fair deal. Can you tell that I am not a fan of products or companies that have the capability in the product, but then engineer it back out? Turds.

You can buy a lot of excellent, used, rack mount units for half that price.

I think you are missing the point, it's a "pedal" form factor. Yes, if money was the only consideration, then one could certainly consider a rack unit.

Strymon pedals are running those 333Mhz SHARC DSP processors. Impressive Id say.

I don't think Strymon gear is overpriced but it's not for everyone, and demo clips only get you so far. I sold a Stereo Wet in favor of a Blue Sky a while back because of it's favorite switch and tweakability, but I was underimpressed with both the normal and shimmer settings as compared to the Stereo Wet. And when I got an Eventide H5 I decided that it's reverbs were just as good so the Blue Sky was kicked off the board.

OTOH many folks love the Strymon sound and have been clamoring for a expanded Mobius/Timeline style reverb unit for some time, so I am sure this is going to do well.
