IEC Socket Dimensions
Hey guys, need some help from those of you that have used these sockets and have plotted the dimensions to have cut. No more strain reliefs for me. The specs on this page are for packaging dimensions and I don't know if I should use those when having a chassis cut. A quick search didn't turn up too much.

Re: IEC Socket Dimensions
I am pretty certain CE's "packaging dimensions" are of the box the part comes in. Also, I would not trust that the chassis cut dimensions for one manufacturer's part will be the same for other manufacturers. If you don't have access to the manufacturers data sheet (one of my pet peeves with CE), then it's best to buy the part, measure it, and dimension your chassis drawing accordingly.
Perhaps a better (and probably a bit more expensive) option would be to source and buy the part from Mouser (where they don't mind telling you who the manufacturer is, what the model number is, and they even provide a link to the data sheet most of the time).

Did you get the snap-in kind or the screw-in kind?
Re: IEC Socket Dimensions
Thanks for the quick responses, guys. I haven't ordered any yet, but if I do get the one from CE, I'll likely get if first and then measure. I did like what I saw on the Schurter link. I've never seen one of those with a retainer for the cord. Very cool! It's much more convenient going with Mouser or DigiKey because of the spec sheets. I'm pretty sure no matter which I end up with, it'll be one that's mounted with screws.

Yup, I like the ears / mounting holes better too. It just feels more secure. Would hate to pull the IEC plug out and have the connector come along for the ride and possibly short hot to chassis. Of course, I don't like sparks.....

Re: IEC Socket Dimensions
i got ones that "look" exactly the same from antique electronics supply. the hole in the chassis fits it perfectly. the cutout is 1.0625" wide and .75" high
Re: IEC Socket Dimensions
I prefer the IEC inlet connector with an integrated fuseholder. The fuse cannot be accessed unless the power cord is unplugged - a good safety feature.
Creating a chassis hole for these is an irritating process though . . .

Re: IEC Socket Dimensions
I know there are knockout punches for IEC connectors out there somewhere because a place I worked at had one (wish I snagged it - think someone else did). Either that, or get a fresh set of files and prepare for a long afternoon
Re: IEC Socket Dimensions
Well my IEC hole is W= 1.125, H= 0.7812

I got a few of those from a surplus place around here - also Schurter. (3 pages of them at that link)darryl_h wrote:I prefer the IEC inlet connector with an integrated fuseholder. The fuse cannot be accessed unless the power cord is unplugged - a good safety feature.
