Increasing headroom (Marshall 2061x)

Post by Rockstar Okan »

Hi everybody;

I'm thinking about increasing a 2061x's headroom. What can i do? I guess, i can bias EL84s cooler, remove V1's cathode bypass caps etc...

I can change 12AX7 preamp tubes to 12AU7 or 12AY7. I know lo-gainy tubes does not increase headroom. But amp stays cleany.

How do you think about adding global negative feedback for increasing headroom? Is this possible?

Thank you for your ideas. Please don't hurt me. I'am a newbee. Modifying my friend's amps is my hobby. :)

You seem to have an idea as to what will help. Removing bypass caps will definitely help. NF will also help out, but I wouldn't be expecting too much from just a couple EL84s. Try those out and see where you get. Speakers can also make quite the difference.
