Recap done. Tubes Redplating

Post by Jerry2013 »

I had put in a bad tube before the recap and blew apart the 1k 5W cement resistor.

I replaced that Cement resistor and all the caps, even the coupling caps. I double checked and apparently did things correctly. There are no screen grid resistors on the tubes as stock- its a little Traynor Bassmate.

Is it possible when the bad tube blew up the cmenet reistor, it took out other resistors?

I am going to need to take it to a tech, unfortunately the only reputable tech in my area moved to Maryland ( The Ampmonster).

I assume this is the fixed bias version of the Bassmate. The 1K 5W is the dropping resistor for the screen supply, so you likely had a screen short. If it shorted G2 to G1, it might have taken out the bias supply. Both tubes redplating? You say you replaced all the caps; including the bias cap (C12)? Could also have damaged the grid return/bias feed resistors (R22, R23) or the 1K5 grid stops (R21, R24). Any tech will be able to tell if you lost negative voltage to the grids.
