Motorola PT And Tubes
Alright here it is. I really hope this thing works out. No matter what the B+ is I'll find some use for it even if I need a separate filament tranny. Turns out the tubes are 6 pinners...

Re: Motorola PT And Tubes
If you are careful, you can splice onto what is left of the PT leads. Worst case is you'll have to open the top layer of paper and fix new leads, which is a bit more delicate to do. You can make it work.
Re: Motorola PT And Tubes
I've thought about it but Mercury tests for free and releading is only like $20. Plus shipping and all I'm in it maybe $30. I like their nice long new leads as well. Thanks for the tip, though!Phil_S wrote:If you are careful, you can splice onto what is left of the PT leads. Re: Motorola PT And Tubes
In many respects, $20 plus postage (making it around $35) plus the $30 you spent isn't a bad price at all for a good PT. MM should do a very tidy job and it sounds like a great solution. I was unaware they will do one-off jobs like this on old iron.
Re: Motorola PT And Tubes
Exactly. After everything is said and done, I'll be in it maybe $65. And I didn't just get the PT, but the whole damn radio. It's just a cabinet shell now, but I have plans for making it a combo... Yeah, I'm one of those nuts.Phil_S wrote:In many respects, $20 plus postage (making it around $35) plus the $30 you spent isn't a bad price at all for a good PT. I'll try and get a pick of the thing here today.
Re: Motorola PT And Tubes
So bored today. Decided to get pics immediately. I think with this thing refurbished and made indoor appropriate she'll be really cool... Especially with an internal amp and speaker!

Re: Motorola PT And Tubes
Wow I got rid of the same exact radio last spring
Re: Motorola PT And Tubes
That's awesome! Do you know if the PT is usable? I mean, I know I could probably use it for something, but it would be nice if I knew just how important it could be, before sending it out.M Fowler wrote:Wow I got rid of the same exact radio last spring
This thing was pretty much beyond repair so I took the liberty of attempting to give life to it's innards... and eventually it's outsides... The cabinet.
Re: Motorola PT And Tubes
The whole thing looked so damn terrible I said I'm not touching that and out it went. Most of the wiring was beyond what I would call safe.
Re: Motorola PT And Tubes
You're completely right about the wiring not being safe any more. Just look at those PT leads! I called Mercury this morning and turns out they can convert it to vertical mount too. Big relief, because otherwise this was going to be quite the challenge. Really looking forward to giving this thing new life. I'll post about it when it gets back.M Fowler wrote:The whole thing looked so damn terrible I said I'm not touching that and out it went. Most of the wiring was beyond what I would call safe.
Re: Motorola PT And Tubes
Wow, it's really nice to know MM offers these services!
Re: Motorola PT And Tubes
Just beware of potted trannies. I was told they are possibly excluded from this service. I'm not for sure on this one, so if you have one you should ask about that when calling.Gaz wrote:Wow, it's really nice to know MM offers these services!
