Squealling help on peavey 3120 with new tubes

Post by cryptic Kitten »

I'm the guy that had the post about the tube amp with the speaker output problem.

I took it to a tech and he fixed it and replaced all the tubes and a resistor or something. He says that it has bad squealing with the gain past noon and the volume up. He said the gain and volume knobs both affect the sound and when the guitar is unplugged it doesn't do it. What should I do when I go to pick it up? I don't want to pay for a poor job.

Why did he replace all the tubes? I doubt they all failed at once.

He's the tech he should tell you why its squealing

He said all the power tubes were bad and the bias was all over the place. Was having buzzing problems before on the lead channel. I'm sure he didn't need to replace all of them but I just got the amp used so I wanted it done anyway. He said "It could have been the guitar I was using."

Its standard practice to replace all the power tubes at once.I was doubting the preamp tubes all neede replaced.

Has the amp ever worked right since you had it?

I'm not familiar with this amp so I don't know what to tell you

No, when I got it there was buzzing and a speaker output didn't work. This is the first time I have ever had work done and I'm not even sure I can trust the guy. What if he doesn't even replace all the tubes?

I told him I wanted them back and he kinda said no without directly saying it. Maybe I'm looking into it too much. I stress myself when I am unsure of things.
