Schematic for "Hoso 56"?

Post by Gordie »

Where can I find "Hoso 56" or some of these other AC-15 based amps such as the Matchless Lightning or even the TC-15?

TC-15 can be found at Trinity amps website. It's in the "Resources" section of their forum. You do have to register to see it.

Not positive but I thought the Hoso schem was floating around here somewhere. If not, I'm pretty sure it can be found at the Hoffman Amps forum (el24world.com).

HOSO 56 was a group reverse engineered / guesstimate over at Doug Hoffman's EL34 forum.
Most of the work was by Geezer who is very active here and Heinz, Tubenit, Sluckey, the usual suspects. Fun dirt throwing amp.
You will find the schematics there.

You should read this thread to see the work that they put in

I thank them for all the work. I built one a while back.
Due to lack of time to test it I lent it to a friend with a studio and nearly never saw it again.
He said it could hang in with a Hiwatt, which i don't believe a word of, and was very good with a strat.
I used a Partride PT + an IG Wickeltechnik OT and threw in a few Merlin mods on the CF and else where if I remember correctly.

Best, tony

There is a schematic and layout here:

And with "psuedo" dual channel switching here:

Geezer sent me a recent soundclip he did with his HoSo56. To my ears, it sounds MUCH smoother and more musical then the SoHo65 YouTube. It should be noted Geezer is using 6AQ5 tubes in his current version instead of EL84's & a 5879 instead of EF86.

I have built two amps based on the HoSo56. One started off very close to what was developed on the Hoffmann Forum. With the other I tried to cross the HoSo with the SLO. It has more gain than the other. Both are fun amps to play.

I attach a schematic which shows one evolution state of my HoSo56 version.

Cheers Stephan
