Anyone done a switched 8R impedance load

Post by M Fowler »

Anyone successfully done this addition of a 8 ohm 50w resistor switched in the circuit once the speaker plug is pulled providing an impedance load so that you can go silent for slave out, line out, or preamp out?

The Marshall Studio 15 has a set-up similar to that, except the load resistor is 25W for the 2x 6V6 power section. What amp did that schematic snippet come from?

The switching contacts in jack sockets are prone to failure, and as the consequence is very bad / not readily apparent, robust mitigation should be used.
Consider a safety resistor permanently hardwired across the secondary, eg 220 ohm between 8ohm tap and ground, rated at about 10-20% of the amp's output.
As per Traynor YB1A, Vox AC50 etc.

I'm not sure what this circuit is from I found it on an internet search for line out ideas.

I tried this and it pulls down the amp's output when switched out running a speaker connected, I'm wondering if the output jacks need to be lifted from ground or use cliff jacks.
