Hum that goes away when i plug in a guitar...
But i dont have to touch it for it to go away, simply just plug in a cable or guitar and it goes away. The amp only hums when there's nothing plugged in. What could it be?
Many thx

accept no imitations or substitutes
Don't overthink it. Just drink it.

I hear you Chief, but that's all i could source locally. The jack itself might be the culprit then.... Crap, i dont have another Cliffake handy.

Ok. Set the amp up with nothing plugged in. Make it hum and then ground the tip with an alligator clip or piece of wire. Does it still hum? If not its the jack

it does go quiet when i ground the tip. So it has to be the jack then. Damn it. I do have regular jacks i can sub in tho.HeeBGB wrote:Ok. Set the amp up with nothing plugged in. Make it hum and then ground the tip with an alligator clip or piece of wire. Does it still hum? If not its the jack

If the shunt switch on the jack doesn't short to ground when unplugged it will buzz.
We talked about the fake Cliff jacks a while back.
I contacted Cliff Inc about this counterfeit issue and they were dealing with it then.
By the way Antique Electronic Supply sells genuine Cliff products.
