Need black crocodile tolex for Selmer
Howdy,
I have a buddy looking to recover his Selmer Truvoice. Does anyone have a lead on correct or close black crocodile tolex? CE/AES only has green. I know the stuff is made here in the US, but 10 minutes with Google only gave me 1 out of stock supplier here, and 2 in the UK. I don't want to pay to have the stuff shipped back and forth across the Atlantic.
Thank you,
Greg

Any of these?

Your picture doesn't show what you are looking for. It is a good shot of the grill cloth. Show us the side or the top -- a close up.
A good place to look is an automobile upholstery shop.

Phil,
Yes, I know, but it's the only shot my friend supplied. He said it's black crocodile, so should be similar to what AES carries in green:

Looks like MOJO doesn't carry the croc at all.
Thanks,
Greg

Re: Need black crocodile tolex for Selmer
I looked into the silver croc thing a few years ago, incl calling mfrs. They will make a 'silver/black croc'. But you have to commit to buying an entire roll of a thousand yards...and at the time..it was something like $4-5k (that's w/ the NRE coloring) and they would not guarantee the color matching. Given recent inflation...it's prob more by now.
I wasn't prepared to lay out that kind of dough in overhead, that would take YEARS to recoup. Maybe someone can convince Mojotone to commit....

I saw some tan croc vinyl when I was picking up something else from these guys:

Not sure what other colors they have.

I've got a huge swatch of animal prints in my shop. I'll have to take a look, it I know there is a ton of alligator in there. I won't be back in there until Monday afternoon. Some of it is pricey though!

Thank you, Taylor. Please hold off - just learned my buddy is giving the amp to his friend in the UK, who will source the material locally. He wanted to re-cover it first, but decided it was more work than he wanted to put into the gift.

Speaking of animals, I just refurbed this Peavey w/ hide scraps from a blue boa and a patent-leather red crocodile [clash of the reptiles].
Owner gave me the original carcass, chewed and shredded by his dog over the years. Couple new PI caps, some tubes, new back panels, and knobs, and now I have another so-so amp to play! At least I'm only out the money for the handle.
