I'm not sure about the position of the filter cap on the board
please, I need your opinion about
Thanks

Re: Dumbleator Layout - I need opinion about filter cap position
Better to have the caps close to the stage your supplying than somewhere far away like in a dog house on top of the chassis (ala Fender).
The shorter your B+ and ground runs the better.
You should be using a 12AX7 btw.

I'm not sure why you are making a new layout for the Dumbleator?
The original design is tried and proven to work well.
What will you do if you have noise or hum issues with this layout?

Thanks ChrisM
Structo
there is a long story behind
I've draw a layout for an italian guy who want to build a modded 5F1
he wants some features and more he want an active FX Loop
so I've draw the layout you can see here
than the guy told me that he want to use for this project two distinct transformers because the transformer he has for the 5F1 have not enough current to supply also the further tube
so I've re-arranged the layout for this purpose and doing that a new Dumbleator layout comes out
Someone, now, told me that it will be better to have the first filter cap near the diodes bridge as to avoid the wire between the diodes and the cap act as a transmitting antenna for the pulsating 100Hz present on it
So now I'm confused
here the layout about I'm talking

Re: Dumbleator Layout - I need opinion about filter cap position
I seriously doubt 300mA of additional filament current and only 4-5mA of additional draw on the HT winding will tax his existing PT that much. What power tube does he plan on using in a Champ circuit that he cannot add an additional 12ax7, a KT120.....lolKagliostro wrote:

A much simpler method using two power transformers would be to just a separate 6.3V unit to power the preamp filaments.

Re: Dumbleator Layout - I need opinion about filter cap position
As to be on the cheap he ordered the transformer at an italian e-shop that every day is more than clear that is a very bad reseller and producer (producer of transformers)
some days ago a guy discovered that the electrolytic caps he got from this shop are fake and inside has a lower rated cap (less voltage and temperature rate), he has send some e-mail to the e-shop, but has got no response
the transformer the guy got for his 5f1 becomes hot during function ..................
say that I don't say more ..........

As the techical expert, sometimes you have to know when to step away or run, unless you are self sadist.

I've updated the Layout
I've tried to apply all the things I've read on Merlin's books
I would like to have your opinion about this new version
Many Thanks
