Help! Danelectro Leader Widowmaker

Post by Cygnus X1 »

I have stared at this and studied similar circuits until my head hurts.
From what I can tell this is a Danelectro Leader amp.
Absolutely no markings anywhere but the cab fits the description.
I have purchased a Triad iso transformer to get it working
but the wiring to the 25Z6GT rectifier doesn't seem to match the schem.
Some of the wires were broken off but I can sort of tell what went where.
The rectifier is lower left.

The other tubes are (2)x6SL7 and (2)x25L6GT.
I know this follows the "5 tube" radio setups but they don't match either.

So, pix and schem...should I just wire it according to the schematic and go from there?

I offered to do this as a charity Christmas gift from a son to his Dad.
But now I'm thinking of just scrubbing it and building a Champ on the chassis instead!

Maybe it would be simpler to put a proper PT in there and convert it to 6L6's? If it were me, I'd R&R all those paper caps no matter what. While you are in there, you can check parts for in/out of spec, etc.

That is one funky looking amp :) I don't know how rare those are, but wouldn't it be cooler to keep the original circuit? You can build a champ in anything...

Man, that thing needs some TLC.

Lots of cut and shredded wires.

The trouble with those is all the heaters are in series to load the AC.

Is that transformer for 25v?

Does this amp have sentimental value?

Seems like it is not a very good amp.
Tom

Don't let that smoke out!

That's also where I'm at.
Those caps have to go, probably all of them.

I've had old radios with ceramics which seem to last forever but when I pull those wax caps and test them...off to the dump.
Not too worried about that, plenty of subs on hand.

Most of the bad wiring is right there in the power/recto side.
You can see from the overview the preamp is intact.

Guess the best, quickest solution is go ahead with a 5F1 and save that iso transformer for another time.

Can't go wrong doing a nice 5F1. It will save you a headache and it will be a great sounding amp.
