what model of amp?
PCB?
often times it's an arching PCB the voltage looks for the shortest path to ground.
does the amp still have a death cap?

when was the last time the amp had a cap job.
it can also be tube related.
or a failing switch.

If it's a marshall JCM2000 throw it away.

Hey I just finished my first build and it does a similar thing when I turn the
power switch to off position, it makes a thump sound with a slight whistle in the speaker.

I would like to know what causes it, I guess it could be a switching transient
when the switch is opened.
