Any ideas as to what might cause a popping sound when a chord is sruck hard while the amp volume is up?

Lots of things.
For a tube amp, plate resistors.
For a solid state amp, a broken solder connection of the filter caps.
That's shooting from the hip of course.
What kind of amp is it and what have you done to troubleshoot it?
