Anyone tried these? Apparently they are are just released, according to the E-Bay site I got this pic from.

Here's a link: http://thetubestore.com/tungsol6l6g.html

EDIT: Probably the same as their 6L6GC in a different envelope.

It's glass version of 6L6, which oryginally has metal shell. (G - glass)

6L6 = 6L6 G =/= 6L6 GC.
6L6 is rated about 19 watts dissipation, 6L6 GC about 30 watts.

Apparently what I gather from other sites is it is pretty much a 6L6GC with a different envelope and base.
Note the KT66 type base.
Doug's Tubes wrote:The Tung Sol 6L6G is prefect you if want the look and sound used during the golden age of hi-fi. Great performance and reliability. Vintage style bottle with an uprated 30 watt plate dissipation. This is a nice full range 6L6 variant with smooth round mids and tight low end.

So is it more of a KT66 than a 6L6GC?

Is there an issue with calling it a KT66?

If it walks like a duck...

I'd say the vintage bulb and base are all for show...

Tubestore review:

"This tube is aimed squarely at the vintage market or applications where looks are as important as sound."

"Although labeled a 6L6G this reissue Tungsol meets all the requirements of a 6L6GC. In fact, the internal assembly looks almost identical to the standard Tung Sol 6L6GC-STR. It will work fine in fixed bias and cathode bias designs and sounds just like the standard Tung Sol 6L6GC. Nothing really old or vintage about the sound. If you like the standard 6L6 this company makes you’ll like the sound of this flashy cousin."

Yeah, it looks cool but if your amp has the bear trap type tube retainer, it won't latch on to that base because it is tapered like a KT66.

So if your amp is a tubes down amp, you would have to have a spring and cap type of tube retainer.

Looks like it was made for one of those hi-fi tube power amps with the chromed chassis. More show than go.

Is there anything in this new millennium that isn't "just another piece of marketing fluff"?

I guess the 'look' is as important as anything in this day and age.

'sgood that New Sensor have finally got their 'tube specs' pages working somewhat.

(Or if it still doesn't work for some of you, see attachment)

'30W' tube. (Time will tell I guess)

...but recent spec sheets are just pitiful compared to the old ones. There are either no plate curves, or very limited ones, and often no transfer characteristics curves. The 6L6EH data sheet at the site linked above has plate curves, but they don't say what the g2 voltage that goes with them is!

Seriously....I believe it's just their regular 6L6GC innerds in a "throback" wrapper.

David, the TS 6L6G has been around for 2-3 years at least. I like the look of ST glass so I grabbed a quad back in 09' because the price was right. Like others have said, it's nothing new really, just the 6L6GC in the ST style envelope and it was marketed by New Sensor as such.

I have the same quad in my 100W 70's build which has 494V on the plates and 490V on the screens. I installed them as test tubes to keep from using my NOS Sylvania 6L6GC quad doing power up. Since they function and sound fine, I just left them in for the cool factor.

One caveat, it is very tall tube and one might not have clearance in all amps.
