Fun With Fractions

Post by The New Steve H »

Absent-minded people should not be allowed to build amps.

Today I decided to start installing stuff in my Champ/Herzog. I got the transformers installed. I created a circuit board and put components in it, and I installed it in the chassis. Then I decided to get crazy and put in the rectifier socket.

I used my new 1 3/8" unibit. Pretty exciting, I thought. No more hole saw! But after I made the hole, I realized...the correct size is 1 3/16".

Arrgh.

I spent an hour and a half on the lathe, making the cute little platform you see in the photo. It covers the gaping hole. If people ask why only one tube has a platform, I'll tell them it has to do with Fermat's extension of Bernouilli's principle. Science stuff. Complicated.

Old carpenter's rule: measure twice, cut once. Nice recovery, though, very nice.

It's ok to screw up like an amateur - as long as you recover like a professional.
A bit like finishing a pre-amp board only to find it's backwards.
Never done that. Not me. No.
Well not lately.

Thanks for the compliment, but you might want to wait a while before trusting me to do anything. It took me half an hour to re-learn how to turn the lathe on.

By the way, I figured out what that platform does. It repels microfleems that aren't subradiante.

It seems to be working out.

I haven't wired it yet, but the board is under there, full of components.

Still need to figure out the footswitch.
