Bright Tube = Bad Tube?

Post by rp »

I have a 5V4 that works fine but that's pretty bright (talking the filament glow) not crazy bright but obviously it got my attention and I compared to some others in the same amp, same RCA GT type, and they have a more typical glow. I think that means it's gassy? Or maybe it means nothing?

If gassy, does that mean I shouldn't use it or that it's mostly fine and it'll just have a shorter life. Does it increase the chance of catastrophic failure?

5V4s always seem way brighter to me than GZ34s or 5U4s. Probably fine.
