Help me ID this speaker?

Post by Lonely Raven »

A local seller has this, he has no idea what it is, no marking on it besides a marking on the back-side of the cone 123-1

Speaker measures about 8ohms

Thoughts?

Celestion gold Alnico? though the bell cover is not quite right.

Weber made a clone of the Celestion with that style bell cover, but in blue - possible customshop?

Jensen and altec use the plane bell cover.

If it's stock i'd guess it's celestion

It's an alnico plug magnet. Could be a recent Weber, they now make them in many different colors, if so it's a decent speaker but not too efficient and not capable of handling more than about 20W or so.

Is it a 10"?

It's a 12" in a Mesa Boogie 3/4 back 1X12 cabinet.

If the speaker is something decent, I'll pick it up, otherwise the deal isn't worth it.

The basket doesn't appear to match any that I've seen before. And the gold dome speaker cone is odd. Almost looks like the 70's speakers, but not quite.

Does it sound good? This is an odd duck (alnico magnet in a Boogie cabinet). Would have to be an early Boogie I think.

Sorry, double post. I thought I'd got rid of this but it's coming back again.

I don't know, I've only seen photos of it so far. He's asking $165 for the cabinet with the speaker...but I don't want it if it's just a hole filler and not a guitar speaker.

It does look neat though...maybe if I talk him down some....

IMHO i'd pass for that money you can find a quality speaker / cab combo.

$50 i'd take a chance. but you'll never come close to removing your investment if either the cab or speaker are bunk.
