Perf board for an amp power section?

Post by T-diddy »

Hi I am wondering whether or not using perfboard that has the copper pads on it would be a good idea for the High Volt section of an amp (filter caps and such). Im not sure what those boards and copper pads are rated at volt wise, and I dont want to cause a potential area of burn.

Thanks again

lots of different makes and models it all depends.
if you can find the model number you might be able to google it and find the data sheet. It would answer all you question.

otherwise you could set up a test rig and see at what point the product fails.

Peel off all the pads you don't wind up using?

Go for unplated perf (holes, no pads)?

I used the unplated perf from radioshack for my ods and put screw terminal/turrets on it.Glued two of them together.was thinking next time maybe put some copper foil between them for shielding for wires and such running underneath.

Unless you ground the foil, it's not shielding anything - and in fact may cause unintended coupling between things.

If it is grounded, the few hundred femtofarads spread everywhere may roll off the (very highest) highs a bit.

Just be sure you put big openings around every turret/lead/wire.

Hope this helps!

Hey thanks everybody for your opinions on this subject. I ended up going the safest route and used non copper padded or regular perfboard. It worked out fine. Thanks for all the input.
