DC from 12v filament supply

Post by andrew »

Hi, I have my power tubes on the 6.3v and a tube rectifier on the 5v. I have a 6sj7 in the preamp on 12v and I would like to run it on DC. Is there a way to convert the 12v to 6v dc? Thanks for any help.

LOL! I was just poking around that one myself!
Check a little over 1/2 way down here:

The regulated approach appears to be the option of choice, based on my limited research, if you have the real estate.
Good luck,

Hi, I found an old wall wart with 5.7 vt and 800ma. Would this be suitable for a 6sj7? Thanks.

Plenty of current available from the wall wart. You need ~300ma.

Is it AC or DC output? If DC, it is just within 90% of what you need. Close enough to give it a test to see if it is worth while implementing more permanently.

Cheers,

I've used the 5VAC lines with a simple FWB and filters to get a good stable 6VDC to the preamp tubes on several amps. Or the 6.3VAC should work well also,...not much current draw from the pres.
The Peavey Classic 20 preamp DC supply is a good example.
