I have an older variable resistor that is rated at 10A 250V. It's usable range is 16 ohms to 250 ohms. Can I use this as a dummy load adjusted all the way to the lowest 16 ohm setting? Will this still be within it's limits for testing a TW Express amp or any 35 - 50 watt amp?
TIA.

Re: Dummy Load resistor.
ohmite has these 300w wound monsters thru mouser.
2 8 ohm can be series\parallel 4\8\16
unless your running signal to test, use the speaker you intend on for the static set up and measurement, it'll have the true load you intend reflected
back to the tubes.
Those tapped resistors aren't as practical you one might think
they're best when used in the middle of they're range.

I picked this one up for a couple of bucks in a discontinued rack. The resistance was not listed so I just took a shot in the dark. When I saw that 16 ohms was using less then a tenth of the resistors windings, I was skeptical about using it for a dummy load.
