Where do I go from here?

Post by milkyBK370 »

Hi folks. First time poster here from Northern Ireland. I recently got into amp building and am really enjoying the learning process too. So far I have built the WF-55 and SL-18 from kits supplied by Ampmaker.com. I'm kinda stuck now as to what my next project is going to be. Any advice on the next step towards building a TW clone? I'm not entirely sure what to build next and would still consider myself a beginner.

Some advise would be greatly appreciated.

Gary,

Welcome aboard, I would build either the Liverpool or Rocket much easier to tame then the Express. :)

I've had good luck rebuilding old PA and organ amps using proven guitar amp designs. You learn at every step: how the original worked, what bits still work for guitar (mostly power supply and power section, but never quite right), and finally how classic preamp sections work.

As a bonus, since the result usually looks like a trainwreck anyway (no pun intended) there's nothing holding you back from changing things compulsively to see what happens, and learning by ear.

If you just want a particular amp, it's a really inefficient and aggravating way to go about it. But it's a great learning experience...
Any old tagline will do

Thanks for the advice guys. I've had a look around the site and it seems to be a wonderful resource. It also seems that most people on here are fairly advanced so hopefully further advice and direction is forthcoming. I'm gonna look into the Rocket design. Thanks folks.
