Marshall Lighted Switch Does it Work With Dual Voltage?

Post by rp »

I got a Marshall carcass that I'm building into and it's got the big square lighted switch. I'm going to be using a 120/220/240 PT. Do I need to replace the switch when in Europe or will this switch light up fine with both voltages? The switch itself will be fine and is rated for it, but I don't understand how the light inside works. I've never seen a neon (which I assume is in there) that is ok with both 120 & 220V. Is it just a 240V rated bulb that winds up being brighter in Europe and dimmer in the US?

BTW it's a later 4 tab switch not the older 5 tab that connected to the voltage selector.

Here's a pic of the rating, to me it implies it works and lights up fine with either voltage.

FYI if you ever solder one of these crappy things move fast or don't plan on reusing it. They seize up easy. I now cut the leads, pull it out, then unsolder and clean up on the bench and use lugs when I reinstall it.
