My brother plays some of the most amazing baritone ears have heard, reall nice stuff.
His amp of choice always comes back to an AC30. Has the right everything for that guitar, but could do with a little more grunt.
got me thinking a 6 hole AC could do the trick..
Sextet of EL84's. Anyone seen/tried/heard such a beast? I like many folk believe the AC30 mojo, and converted my rocket closer to that spec, and LOVE it!
Ive got a spare plexi style 50 watt OT i can use, 3.4k, and i figure the heyboer wreck PT should be fine with that 300ma on tap, got one handy too.
Anything i should consider modding elsewhere?
Cheers Don

If you are not dead set about EL84 why not use 2 EL34s? Your OT would be a perfect match for that. To get similar drive to the power tubes as in the AC30 you could reduce the PI bias resistor from 1.2k to 820R and the PI tail resistor from 47k to 15k.
My first homebrew was based on the TopHat Club Deluxe - basically a Matchless Lightning with 6V6s - but I used EL34s. That amp has been with me on stage for more than a year now.
Cheers Stephan

Re: Vox AC45?
Thanks Stephen, nice idea, actually really liked the tone the matchless phoenix has, lots of chime for 34's.
This is a strange idea i admit, but when you hear the baritone thru an ac30, it is soooo right. Mix of chime from the 84's, the jangly breakup, sweet cleans, its real pretty and suits his paying. Weve tried marshalls and fenders and ampegs, all great but not the same. I think hes kinda decided a pair of ac30's are the go, maybe i'll build some two headed stereo AC30 monster, with 6 tubes a side! Yeah!

Re: Vox AC45?
PS I forgot to mention that I play Baritone guitar as well. It is definitely a cool sound.
Re: Vox AC45?
Weber has a 50 watt "18 watt" kit, might want to check out the schem for some ideas... think his is fixed bias for some reason though.
