It Finally happened to me!

Post by passfan »

I answered a craigslist add for 116 radio tubes for 60 bucks and hit the jackpot. Seems this guys roomate bugged out on him around a year ago and never came back and ...left this bunch of tubes and caps. After going through them I count

Over 50 GE 12au7's with mid 60's date codes
an assortment of 12by7's , 12bh7's and 12dw7's
5 various 5u4g's
5ar4/gz34
5y3
assorted oddball stuff and...

Over 40 various 12ax7's; Sylvania , GE, RCA blackplates, a 5751 with a 56 date code and rectangular getter that looks brand new in the box. I've tasted over half of them in my rocket and picked out around a dozen that are in my wine cellar already.

I think this guys roomate must be dead to have left this stash. There's not a date code later than 66 in the whole lot and a few of the 12ax7's and a couple of 6bq5's say made in Holland. Well worth 60 bucks and a 65 mile round trip to Tampa today. :D

Good for you! You would never see that on E-Bay, that's for sure. I must check out craigslist now and then!

If you have a couple spare GE long plate 12AX7s I'd be happy to lighten your load at a fair price. These are good for D-clone PI and I only have one.

I hate you......

Just kidding.
I just scored a Tek 2465 four trace 300mhz scope for $152. It had a bad trace intensity pot. I used to live next door to a guy who worked a warrantee bench at Tektronix for that scope. I had the part. It took 15 minutes. Hehhehhehhehheh. Now I can put a probe on each stage of an amp and see what happens first and why. It's a beautiful thing. I'll sell my old Tek 453 for $152 plus shipping. It's perfect.

I'm really digging it. All the 12au's are long plates. Final 12ax7 count is one RCA black plate and the rest look to be made by GE for RCA. I have about 3 or 4 GE long plates, a couple raytheons made for baldwin and some sylvanias made for baldwin. Some GE shortplates and a couple ITT's made in Germany and G. Britain and 2 hammonds made in holland the rest hammonds marked RCA. I put the gz34 in my rocket along with the 5751 in v1, a made in holland hammond in v2, and a ge long plate in v3, the output tubes are the reflectors with the 5 star cccp markings on the side. Man it sounds sweet.
I sincerely hope you guys have already, or will, experience this at some point. It's neat as all get up.

Good for you! Congrats. I had a similar experience with a batch of 6V6s several years ago. I'm friends with Jim of Southbay and Scumback/bag fame, and one or the other of us found a BIG stash of old 6V6s somewhere, which we jointly purchased and split between us. GREAT stash of a variety of old 6V6s. I still have most of them in a box under my workbench.

Good fun when you can run across a find like that. :D
