Re: substitution for a 7868 ?
The data sheets show 7591A as a virtually identical octal tube. 6L6GC has the same 6.6K load, a few watts higher output, .1 amps more heater current, and a 500 max plate voltage ( 50 less than 7868).
I have an old Bogen W/ a quad of 7868s in my bone pile I am planning on making into a 2X EL34 because it will have roughly the right load (3.3K) and enough heater current ( 4X 7868 = 3.2 Amps, 2 X EL34 = 3 Amps).

Hey Andy,
Just FYI, you can get new 7868's from EH. I had some modding fun with an old Bogen PA that had an original pair in it. They sounded quite good.

A bit pricey though.

$$$..... I've got this ampeg that needs to be turned around. I Want to keep
it as is, but the options have to be explored. Its cheaper to convert.
But you have to balance your choices with vintage pieces.
