Re: Reactive Load Question
Martin is trying to keep you from having kids in California.
Umm.. yes, sort of. I would prefer to build a simple line out in the load box and use a direct box. Then you have options for usage on the direct box.
Umm.. still gong to sound weird.. if weird is "like it's not running into a cabinet and really loud in a space".

Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

If I did have kids, that's about as close as I'd like them to be.Reeltarded wrote: ↑Sun Oct 28, 2018 5:08 pmMartin is trying to keep you from having kids in California.
Honestly, I used that transformer simply because I had it in a box, leftover from a previous build. Perhaps the wrong type for this purpose.Reeltarded wrote: ↑Sun Oct 28, 2018 5:08 pmUmm.. yes, sort of. I would prefer to build a simple line out in the load box and use a direct box. Thinking about ordering the one Martin spec'ed out along with the 100uF audio crossover cap and making those changes.
Looks like this Jensen JT-11-FL can provide me with either a balanced or unbalanced line out via a 1/4" TRS jack and an XLR type connection. Is it correct to say I could use a Neutrik NCJ6FI-S Combo Connector XLR 1/4" Stereo Jack like this:

..or should it be a mono version
I'll upload a clip of what I get thru this loadbox without the speaker/mic impulse responses.Reeltarded wrote: ↑Sun Oct 28, 2018 5:08 pmUmm.. still gong to sound weird.. if weird is "like it's not running into a cabinet and really loud in a space".

Re: Reactive Load Question
I don’t see why that combo jack won’t work. Interesting piece.

I think I've got this correct.martin manning wrote: ↑Sun Oct 28, 2018 10:34 pmI don’t see why that combo jack won’t work. Interesting piece.

If I don't, please point out my errors.
Thank you

Re: Reactive Load Question
I would be inclined to follow the Jensen circuit and put the ground lift on the primary side. If ground loop hum gets into the primary, lifting the secondary won’t take it out.

Re: Reactive Load Question
I looked at that for hours tryna figure that out, Martin.martin manning wrote: ↑Tue Oct 30, 2018 1:31 pm I would be inclined to follow the Jensen circuit and put the ground lift on the primary side. If ground loop hum gets into the primary, lifting the secondary won’t take it out.
I thought I had the answer there.
So, given your comments, what would the power rating of that 50 Ohm resistor and 10 nF cap need to be - placed there just between chassis ground and the input sleeve ?
Thanks

Re: Reactive Load Question
There is no current to speak of there so I’d make the cap 100V or better and the resistor 1/2W (just for mechanical strength). You’ll want to isolate the input jack from the chassis, and ground the output jack.

Re: Reactive Load Question
This was my real confusion.. how schematically to accomplish just that.martin manning wrote: ↑Tue Oct 30, 2018 2:37 pmYou’ll want to isolate the input jack from the chassis, and ground the output jack.

Re: Reactive Load Question
That’s it as you’ve drawn it. Just keep J1 from making electrical contact with the chassis by using a Cliff-type jack, or shoulder washers on a Switchcraft type.

Re: Reactive Load Question
Thanks to your comments, and looking back at the Jensen sample schematic - it finally clicked.martin manning wrote: ↑Tue Oct 30, 2018 8:54 pm That’s it as you’ve drawn it. " connect a suitable load across J1 "
I finally drew it up with my reactive load across J1.
Yeah, the input jack I'm using is exactly that type. It's a non-conductive material.
