Crap.
Re: JTM 45 fixed!
Now I see the problem!
You have empty turrets there. Just install the missing components and it should be fine.

Re: JTM 45 fixed!
Ok. Effin thing works!!! A little blocking distortion in it. Expected. I am running a 12 inch wire out ofnthe chassis frommthe gain to V1b for stage two.
PROBLEM: ok, so I need to drop the bias resistor, right? Let me 'splain..
I ran the trimmer to a little less than half until it started sounding like an amp. It still has a ways to go and I need a good way to measure. No redplating. It's some ghost ass problem I have read about where an amp works just as expected but can't get a reading at the 1Rs.
It actually sounds pretty damned good with a tad of yick in it even.
Ok, I need a favor, but only if someone has an open 50w Marshall with EL34s that bias around 38mV.
I need the voltage reading at the 220k junction to the ouput grids.
Only if your amp is open! I can have another rig up and running in 10 minutes, just sayin'..
Love you! Look at it!

You can't get a reading across your 1r's?your meter is set to Mv's and not mA's Right?

Re: JTM 45 fixed!
Yeah, no, yeah. Yep. Nope.
Yes. Works. I need 10mV more positive and I am right at it. It freaking sounds really good wihout a entrance resistor for v1b and 12" of wire hanging out, no bottom plate.. AND biased more in cutoff that kickass.
ROCK! I BEAT THIS THING WITH SCIENCE! lol
And a lot of helpful pointers. LOTS.
Other amp 451v this one 452v. Swapped tubes into Petey and biased him up. Read the voltage at 220k feed. Swapping 33k into other amp for more positive range. When I get to -34.4 at junction tune by ear. Hah! This thing IS a Bruisemaker. Duh, I went the wrong way. lmao

Cool.Can't wait for the soundclips.
Re: JTM 45 fixed!
I've been watching this project from the shadows for a while. Congrats! I wanna know how it sounds!

Re: JTM 45 fixed!
Couple things to go. Wiring bright caps, hooking up resonance, variable slope, and my Josendrix diode complicator.
Still have that blank tube slot and a whole end of a board.
Oh no! It has two unused triodes..
Be back soon!

Re: JTM 45 fixed!
Glad to hear you are moving through it. Trouble shooting is an art, even if the thing was working previously. If it never worked (i.e. new build) then anything from one or more bad parts to wiring errors could be the cause. I don't know which is worse, troubleshooting your own new build where you're absolutely certain (yeah, right) that you don't have any wiring errors, or somebody else's where you have no idea what errors might be there.

Re: JTM 45 fixed!
Absolutely, Martin. This has been amvery good lesson for me, proving methods is what it's all about once you get beyond the parts being known to be good.
The greatest news is that now I tested the voltages and dropped the bias resistor I have bias readings both tubes on the 1R. It was a range issue I suppose. Same circuit.. -slaps own face-
I wiggled the board and have a doohickey just before the PI entrance, but all is going really well.
Thanks for your help here. Chopstick lunch! Yum!

Re: JTM 45 fixed!
Thanks! It was challenging for sure, and lots of fun.
Here is the Bruisemaker Mk II in his combo shell with a pair of 'gonna blow up when you hit an E' greenbacks.
Thing is wild like an animal. I may drop the preamp filtering to 16uF like on Petey, need to break it in on some tracks first.
Yay!
PS: I WILL NEVER WIRE UNDER A BOARD EVER AGAIN unless I am hiding a trick.

Re: JTM 45 fixed!
1986 with the shallow box. It's half as old as me.. are you saying I'm old?
Took it back apart and configured the 6 position mode switch as bright/drive. OFF, 500p, 1000p, 100, 100, 100p with position 4/5/6 being clipping networks 20v, 12v, 5.1v zeners.
My plan worked. It's a Vox killer.
