Very nice conversion, one of the better I've seen.

Chris, thanks I appreciate the kind words.

I was worried about the flying leads back to the pots and all the routing of to the caps as well as the tight spaces to the tube sockets. :) No hum or noise of any kind and this amp is loud which I like.

Back plate is an old name plate from work. I was sifting through junk to use as a backplate and found that. It worked perfect.

Geez how the hell can 18 watts be so loud :D

As you know this was going to be Dr Z's Carmen Ghia using EF86, 12Ax7, 2 EL84's and GZ34 rectifier tube compliment.

I love the Marshall IIB though so with only one input jack I paralleled the V1a&b 12Ax7 ala Matchless Spitfire/Lightning. So I imagine I am getting a whole lot more gain then a regular IIB would get.

If I remember right I was getting 348v on the plates, didn't write them down just made sure the voltages weren't crazy.

With volume at 2 this amp is loud and clean. Stays clean right up to (6-7) or 1-2 o'clock, I like the tone ccw down at 1 mark, if I had marks. With LP I liked the Vin 30 pair over the Celestion blue/G12H30.

Cliff to build one IIB it would require the following so I at least need those values.

Carbon Comp resistor BOM 1/2w

Value Quanity
100k 2
470k 4
47k 1
820R 2
120k 1

Yeah, when I built the Rocket into my Hammond chassis, it was an exorcise in "cramology".

Some day I may buy a nice chassis for it and do it right. :D

By the way Mark, the endbells on those PT's are aluminum and they polish up real nice.
I just took some acetone to the silver paint on it then used a rubbing compound and they shined right up. :D

This shot is before I shined it up.

Tom that is nice. :)

Yeah I had a cap come loose and to resolder it I held the iron on the back of the turret because it was the very bottom eyelet and not easy to get to.

It was a fun amp to build.

Paisley,

I am quite sure that the layout has already been posted but I can search for the thread for you no problem.

My ghia has lots of head room using a EF86 has more gain then a 12Ax7 and the GZ34 provides less drop in voltage then 5u4 so if you want more headroom you may have to up the voltage making sure not to exceed the max plate voltage on those EL84's.

This Lite IIB is one loud 18w amp that stays clean. If I had built it like a real IIB it would break up sooner for more Marshally tone then what I am getting with this Hammond conversion. I still like the little bastard though.
