OK then, I understand, no problem. Never underestimate the ego of a politician. Especially one who's the son of a politician. What, set a good example? Whatchoo talkin' bout? You'll be happy to know I didn't vote Gore in 2000. Had more to do with his VP but I'm not too impressed with the Gore-rilla his self either. The New Steve H wrote:McCain doesn't pretend to be the messiah of green. Gore does. That is the difference you don't want to lose sight of here. Gore has a giant house that sucks up an insane amount of energy. Meanwhile, he took away our light bulbs and killed a huge number of American jobs. If he cared about energy, he'd live in a normal house and drive a dinky economy car, the way he expects us to.Leo_Gnardo wrote:That's OK, each of John McCain's 7, 8, 9 oops I dunno how many houses, also have their own nu-cu-lar plant.

I use LED 'bulbs'. Yea, they cost more....but they last MUCH longer, don't flicker like fluorescents, cost less watthrs, run WAY cooler, and have a few color temps available. I use them on my bench (5000k) and on my desk (2700K), and dimmable floods in the kitchen. They are only going to go down in price as usage increases.
This bullshit about jobs being taken away is a bullshit argument. Blame the unions and the organized crime for that one.
If this country was properly educated, every one of us could design a SS current adj regulator/limiter w/ readout rather than using caveman technology like a lightbulb limiter....good god....

The unions and organized crime forced the green agenda on us? Are you kidding? Factories aren't being closed because of the high union wages of light bulb workers. They're being closed because of environmentalist nuts.chief mushroom cloud wrote:This bullshit about jobs being taken away is a bullshit argument. I can't believe I'm defending unions.

I can blame the unions and I can blame trade practices and the mob we voted for.chief mushroom cloud wrote:

Hey, do you bypass your LED lighting? I use a 2k7 bypassed .68u for brightness.

We have 317 plus million people in this country that live in homes that are thirty percent larger than in the 50s and leave every f------g light on in the house and then insist that they are entitled to cheap power. This country labors under the delusion that infinite expansion is sustainable. The modern patriot would embrace green technology because you get more when you waste less. I can't understand why people fight this so much. The New Steve H wrote:The unions and organized crime forced the green agenda on us? Are you kidding?

The problem is that any energy saved by the modern patriot only fills the pockets of people who could really not care less about sustainability.Colossal wrote:We have 317 plus million people in this country that live in homes that are thirty percent larger than in the 50s and leave every f------g light on in the house and then insist that they are entitled to cheap power. USA factories are, and have been for decades, closed, stripped, and the contents sent overseas to Asia mostly, to satisfy the greed of vulture capitalists. Bain Capital leads the parade. Hardly a group of environmentalist nuts. Or if they are, they're the type that believes they know best what's good for the environment and everything else, and that is for them to be pampered perfumed princes & princesses, and the rest of us to be their serfs. So far it seems to be working perfectly well dont'cha think? The New Steve H wrote: Factories aren't being closed because of the high union wages of light bulb workers. I personally don't believe so much in green.
I try to live green as much as I can, but green laws are cromatically liaised to dollars more than to grass.
If it is really just a green policy, why the united states ( eu as well of course) do not start building a green factory to produce lamps inside the US?
You'll have a green factory that produce green lamps that make you save money.
We have around 10 lamps each person at home, so around 3 millions lamps in US, plus offices and all public illumination and related power savings.
Why we have to buy them from China?

Rhetorical? You know the answer, it's not because of cheaper labor, the bulbs sell for €5@ but because environmental and worker protection and benefit laws are lax or none existent. No one to sue, no one to arrest. Those are all added costs that can be avoided in China and so much more profit.roberto wrote:Why we have to buy them from China?
I try to be as green as possible, never mind the bollocks, but some of the crap you just can't get past. Like Tom's toothpaste @ $7 a tube. Saving the world one $7 tube of toothpaste at a time. Lots of BS like that in the green world.
And yes we've added trillions of CFLs to the worlds trash heaps spreading mercury just about everywhere. I think I'd rather have a little more carbon.

With all the subsidy for things that are proven to be spurious fixes you'd think that it's a scam, as presented. It is a scam as presented. humans will never have a net positive effect on environment and if someone doesn't address over population in a meaningful way all we have to do is wait for nature to do it.

During these days in Italy there is a media-bombing about energy and food.
This is because of the food and energy international something that will be in Milan from May up to whenever.
One undred millions more people are living on the earth every year.
They say we have to be ready to reduce the energy consumption and to produce more healty food with less ground and without affecting the resources for the future.
I realized only at the end of the promo that it was not supposed to be funny.
But it is.
In a logical point of view, eight zeros more people every year is the best way to destroy the planet.
In an economical point of view, they are three hundred dollars multiplied by one hundred millions people every year. It's thirty billions dollars every year.
Not so bad.

I'm not against green. I'm against stupid, and closing factories before we have PRACTICAL green technology is stupid and cruel.
Bain Capital didn't do that.
I'm kind of amazed to see people who play electric instruments complain about wasting energy. Hard to know where to begin analyzing that logic.
