I know is an old thread, but the mid pot is a 100K log pot. That ticks all the boxes.
The bigger question is what is going on with the P.I. stage. There were two versions, there is the one in the first Mark 1 diagram with the 0.001uF input cap, the 1M grid leak resistors and the 56K feedback resistor with the 10K tail resistor with a 10K presence pot in parallel with it. The other circuit uses a 0.003uF input cap, 330K grid leak resistors, a 820 ohm feedback resistor and a 100 ohm tail resistor.
From my experience the former has a lot more gain than the latter.
