I’m not saying you didn’t need to keep tweaking but what you describe is a quality of EL84 amps. They sound kinda thin and rough, using 4X fleshes and warms it up a bit hence the love for AC30s. I didn’t go back and reread the whole post, but El84s are easier to drive than 6L6s, you may be hitting them too hard using the 5F6A PI configuration.The New Steve H wrote:It's very, very detailed until you turn the volume up pretty high, and then there's a great deal of distortion.
