4Xel84 sound better than 2x IMO. And while louder it’s not that much louder, which is why I’ll build my Rocket to be only 4X84.

I’m not saying you didn’t need to keep tweaking but what you describe is a quality of EL84 amps. They sound kinda thin and rough, using 4X fleshes and warms it up a bit hence the love for AC30s. I didn’t go back and reread the whole post, but El84s are easier to drive than 6L6s, you may be hitting them too hard using the 5F6A PI configuration.

I think the 6V6 is the better sounding tube but all glowing glass is fun.
