The Kingslayer is a Klon and very similar to the Sinking I posted above. The Kingslayer has the two opamps combined in a single package and has provisions for additional clipping diodes. It is the improved version Klon clone. Madbean boards are great quality too.

Both the opamp packages in that box are dual. I've used Tons of TL072 chips. I used to get TL071 with only one opamp but I don't think those are made any more.

I've still got some old raggedy sounding 741s in the cabinet. I actually liked that nasty sound. Okay, now I'm getting maudlin. :?

Thanks for the links, Tony!

Hmm... Instead of the two tl072s (dual opamps) the Kingslayer uses one tlc274 (quad opamp)... Sorry I wasn't clear. I just recommend the Sunking because most guys might have the dual opamps in stock.

Oh, I see (duh). I was looking at the Gliteratti. The TLC274 is common and cheap - no prob. Cool! Lots of nice options too.

Here's a good demo video:

Maybe we could do a build on this one in particular. I wish we had a small space just for some of the better pedals out there.

My friend said that the Klon Centaur were going to be built again soon, anyone know about this?

It already has been released and it is called Klon KTR. Just do a Google search on it.
Apparently, it is a SMD design now and being built by a third party, but Bill Finnegan (The Klon designer) says it does sound the same and he spent few years in designing it to ensure so.

A couple of comparisons:

Looking for them for sale I saw a Gold Centaur for a mere $1,999.00 - pocket change, eh? I think I'll be building one before picking one of those up.

Just saw that (being busy with amps ye know).
I'd personally take Suhr Kokoboost or Analogman's KOT (I know it's different beast) before Klon any day. But to each it's own. I've built three slightly different incarnations of Klon and didn't manage to like them.
I have another 20-25 drive pedals (you can't have enough drives, but to my excuse, I've built most of them) to choose a flavour from, however, still seem to prefer 5e3 slightly pushed and cranked cleans of the Small Special build these days. Who knows what it will be like tomorrow :)

Guys

So I built my first pedal kit and it sounds great. I went with the Zenith Drive for my Rocket to get a little overdrive for solos.

Question: It's got a stereo plug for the input and I wired correctly so that when you unplug your guitar cord the power, battery power only, is cut to the pedal. But once it's installed the ring and sleeve short to the metal box. The plug shaft, where the nut goes is metal and common to the ring and sleeve. I tried plastic washers but the shaft still hits the metal where it goes thru the hole. Is there a special plug that works here. I tried another that a black plastic unit but the shaft still is metal and shorts.
Should I just forget it and change batteries as needed? Hmmmmmm....

are you switching +9v? because you say that it shorts to the enclosure

normal practice is to switch the battery negative, such that when a jack is inserted it connects the battery ground to the chassis

The plug is suppose to short the ring and sleeve so the battery -ve connects to circuit ground. If it's a metal jack the sleeve will be connected to the enclosure, that's what you want. Remove the plug and the ring (battery -ve) is no longer connected to the enclosure or circuit ground, the battery is disconnected.

That's right but the ring and sleeve also are part of the nut shaft that mounts the jack so if it touches the chassis you have a path for -ve to complete the circuit. The ring connects to the sleeve thru the metal box. So even with the plug out power is on. Now when I took the jack out of the box it works fine. That metal box is the problem. Next step drill a bigger hole put a plastic sleeve over the jack with plastic washers on both the inside and outside to isolate it from the metal. There must be another way but I don't see it...

Thanks guys!

Don't start drilling bigger holes. You've made an error somewhere. If you wire it correctly, it will work. You don't need special washers, special plugs, a special box, etc.
