Ooh....okay. A Big Muff Pi variation. I'm going to try one of those in my amp eventually...

Okay, so I tried a Big Muff Pi variation and it is close, but still too dark...hmm. I like the way it shifts, but it still doesn't open up the top end enough for me. I'll try a few more iterations and see what I come up with...

Thats the thing.... keep looking. I like the old vol. and tone best, but I'm always
looking for more to try and to use in conjunction.

Hey, could one essentially build a TMB tone network with resistors and capacitors, yet leave only the "Treble" pot as the Tone pot? That might work for my needs...

there's a few examples of that used by Wards/Airline. The scheme heaven

Simply do not use the boost pot.
Tone pot is a dual pot, so only one hole in the chassis.

Cool! Bargain Bin it is...I'll go have a look...

Now, the one drawback of installing a "full" tonestack is the loss of gain, yes? That is, the stock 6G3 circuit doesn't loose as much gain in the tonestack as it would if one installed a TMB tonestack, right?

OKAY! I think I'm nearly there. Here is what I have.

Normal Volume and Tone (1M, each) controls a la 6G3. The 500pf bright cap is reduced to 68pf (might move it to 100...I'll give my ears a rest and check back in tomorrow). The .01uf cap on the tone control is replaced with a [100k -> .047uf -> 6k8 -> Ground] setup. I like this! The channel has it's Brown Deluxe-y vibe yet isn't nearly as harsh as it was before. I'll tinker some more with the values, but this is getting really close...

See the attachment for what I'm using now (currently have a 68pf cap in there...). It's my first time using the software, so excuse the look...

That's a neat approach, I hadn't thought to tailor the tone cut end of the circuit like that.

The midrange that comes along with the 500p cap value does something,
the amp is geared to break up early. That might a good spot to use a
selector of some sort or switch, go between 100p and 500p.

What cap type are you using? ceramic or silver mica?

I'm using a tacked-in 68pf silver mica, though I have many ceramics and polystyrenes lying about. When I get home (it's "park day" with the son today) I'll crank up the amp and see how it sounds...that's the final test...
