O.K. .....
I made a suicide cord.
I took all the precautions.
I wire nutted my meter leads to the transformer.

I measured red to red out of the transformer and got 337 V AC.

I measured one red to red/yellow and got 142 V.

I measured the other red to red/yellow and the voltage started climbing...
140..142.. back to 140 and it started to hum...

then the SMELL !!!!!!!!
F*ck..
I guess that means it's bad huh ?
It was only 45 bucks and I'm glad to have found the problem...
Is this a common setback ??
Are transformers faulty or this a real fluke fluke ?
Anybody have a spare hammond that'll work for my champ ???
PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [/list]

You can get a decent 325-0-325 from http://www.musicalpowersupplies.com for much less and it will do the job very nicely. I wouldn't spend the dough on the Hammond. Just my 2 cents.

Sorry about your loss. It is better, though, that you have found the problem.

Now, however, you still need to find the cause. Slapping in another PT is likely to have the same result if you don't find out what you did wrong. I would start by checking every ground. If I were a betting man, I'd say, a dollar to a donut hole, that you've got something grounded that should NOT be grounded.

It is time for you to post some pictures of your build. Others may spot something.

I have another thread "ANYBODY UP ??" In the technical discussion area with pics. I don't know if the link will work. That is what it DID look like. It's totally stripped now. I will post step by step pics as I go. Thanks again for all the support.
