Re: Suhr BPSSC
They already do install a coil in Lam tops on their Teles. Pete Thorn from Chris Cornell has one and it is sweet.jaysg wrote:I disagree. I attempted to challege Suhr when he was still posting at TGP, but he never bit. A BPSSS for $260 doesn't do much unless you also buy pickups...so you're looking at $260 + $220 + shipping for Fralins, say. There's a small passive circuit board with some pots. OEM, maybe $15. A backplate and some formvar wire....$15. A bit of goo and a profit margin...I still see this costing about the same as a good strat pickup...in the $65 to $90 range. I would order two today, if he'd make that price reasonable. I can only conclude that he's not interested in volume and he wants it to be a high-zut product. When the patent dies, they'll be ubiquitous.angelodp wrote:Any of you guys using the Suhr BPSSS system. How do you like it.
yeah i know $260 .... but noiseless are about the same.
The thing that you forget is that Suhr does not make the SSC or own the patent. Illitch Electronics does, it was just that Suhr was the only person to believe that the system is the best way to go, he ordered the numbers and had an exclusive. He buys the system from Ilitch and has had an exclusive which I believe is expired because they didnt move the growing numbers that Ilitch wanted. His hands were tied by the price he was paying for the system and the licensing fee, he was never very pleased about the price he was forced to charge and was apologetic when I talked to him about it since I do understand the cost of materials when I ordered my guitar. You could say the same thing about the price of amps around here though
BTW they are now offering the built in system on guitars they know will fit like classic Strat shaped guitars.

why is that
Why are the built ins working better. What is the difference in doing it on a stock Strat ( assume all similar wind and polarity )

Re: why is that
He said there were space limitations with the backplate so they had to use more wire and a smaller coil.angelodp wrote:Why are the built ins working better. What is the difference in doing it on a stock Strat ( assume all similar wind and polarity )

The internal coil is larger so it has less to virtually no inductance, lower DC resistance and is on the same plane as the pickups and placed in a more optimum position.
