If you are the only one using the amp, whatever you did to wire up the primary is fine. The problem comes when someone else thinks the selector is operational and tries to plug into a 220 line. While the possibility is remote, Murphy's law says it will happen. While the memory is fresh, I would take the time to wire up the selector switch properly. In a nutshell, knowing the work is as it should be done is its own reward.
On another note, the main topic of the thread, I really do feel for you on this. Losing a tranny is very unrewarding. Losing the pair (my experience) is even worse. Anyway, I'm glad you are on the way to recovery.
