Yup, that's the tolex glue I used. It sticks well, isn't terrible to handle with no fumes, but it likes to clump up little balls while spreading it and there were some lumps the bottle, which I just received directly from the distributor. No date codes on it that I can tell. Don't think it is old.
The particular filler I used says it never expires, just add water. So it doesn't actually cure, and the water-born tolex glue like that, re-liquifies the filler.
Thin super glue did the trick though, water proofed the filler, and it adhered well to the wood, even where I had to pull up the freshly stuck vinyl.
I screwed myself on that covering material though. It's a dead wringer for the color of the original, especially the original material that wasn't exposed to sun or fading.
But it is way too soft, stretchy and it is a lot thicker than the paper thin stuff in the original. In retrospect, I should have added a 1/16" of an inch to some of the interior dimension to get the origin baffle board and some other parts to fit better. It also scuffs and tears too easily, and the color doesn't stay the same all the way through. Just made life hard on myself applying it.
Oh well, live and learn. I guess all the scuffs and splits I've accumulated from just working on it can be chalked up to "aging it" to look period correct.
On the other hand, I got the speakers and chassis fitted on it last night with a minimal amount of bad words.
